Species Notes: An aggressive, mass-recruiting species that I have found only in flood-plain forest. This species is morphologically similar to Pheidole nesiota. It is very sensitive to attack by unidentified species of Phorid flies - I have observed majors and minors to assume a particular pose in the presence of Phorids - mandibles-open and upward facing, abdomen tucked under thorax. Often this species will completely abandon a bait station after the appearance of one or multiple Phorids. |
